Achieving a tabbed text effect or removing table formatting

Tables in es2 are formatted by a pre-defined stylesheet. This adds lines and background colours to cells automatically. Following the instructions below will allow you to create a table without lines or other formatting.

One situation where removing all formatting is helpful, is if you want to create a tabbed effect. HTML has no tabs, so creating simple tabbed text without a visible table or by using repeating spaces, can be difficult. For example:

Using spaces:

Name                       Telephone
Mr Smith                   01622 123456
Mrs Jones                 01234 098765
Ms Fletcher-Clarke   04321 876543

... things just don't always quite line up!

Or using a table:

Name Telephone
Mr Smith 01622 123456
Mrs Jones 01234 098765
Ms Fletcher-Clarke 04321 876543

... but I don't want the lines or the background!

This is what I want, what I really really want:

Name Telephone
Mr Smith 01622 123456
Mrs Jones 01234 098765
Ms Fletcher-Clarke 04321 876543

es2 makes this easy to achieve.
Simply follow the instructions below.

  1. Create a table with the columns and rows you require.
  2. Set your table width to suit and adjust the column widths using the tools provided.
  3. With your cursor inside the table, right click and select 'Table properties'
  4. Click the 'Advanced' tab
  5. In the 'Stylesheet Classes' field enter notableformat
  6. Click OK

When viewed on your web site, the table rules will be invisible and you will have the appearance of a tabbed list. Note: in the content editor, the table borders will remain visible.
